PREGNANCY SERIES

Welcome to Week One, where everything is happening... invisibly. If you’re hoping for dramatic belly rubs and ultrasound reveals, you might want to grab a cup of tea and settle in. This week is all about subtle shifts, soft sighs, and the kind of mystery only a uterus can pull off.

Poppet, our leading lady, is currently starring in “Maybe I’m Pregnant, Maybe I Just Want Extra Snacks.” She’s sleeping like a poet, sniffing the wind like it owes her answers, and curling up in her blankets with the gravitas of a queen awaiting her crown.

Pregnancy begins quietly. There are no visible signs, no swelling, no change in appetite. But beneath the surface, a profound transformation has begun. Week 1 of canine pregnancy marks the moment of conception — when sperm meets egg, and the blueprint of new life is written. This week is about observation, intention, and acknowledging the invisible spark that sets everything in motion.

Inside Poppet’s uterus, things are quietly (and possibly) getting exciting.

If mating was successful, fertilisation likely occurred within 12 hours, with sperm meeting egg in the fallopian tubes during her oestrus phase—when progesterone levels rise and she’s feeling romantically receptive.

The resulting zygotes are now cruising down those tubes like tiny VIPs, dividing rapidly into clusters of identical cells destined to become embryos.

By the end of Week One, they’re still free-floating, not yet attached to the uterine wall—microscopic, silent, and full of potential. Hormones may be shifting, but Poppet’s poker face is strong, and I'm trying not to obsessively Google “early signs of dog pregnancy.”

How I Support Poppet (Without Hovering Like a Helicopter Parent)

  • Companionship: I stay nearby, but let her pretend she’s the one in charge.

  • Meals: No dietary changes yet, but I do offer her the occasional “just because” tasty treats.

  • Atmosphere: Predictable daily routine with zero vacuuming near her nap zone. She’s nesting, not surviving a rock concert.

What I’m Noticing

  • She’s sleeping deeper. Possibly dreaming of puppies. Possibly dreaming of roast chicken.

  • She’s lingering at her food bowl like it’s a wine tasting.

  • She’s giving me “don’t ask, just vibe” energy.

No dramatic symptoms. Just quiet royalty.

💌 For Future Families

This week is like the first page of a novel—no plot yet, but the tone is everything. If your future pup is growing inside Poppet right now, their story began in this hush. In soft blankets, gentle breezes, and the kind of care that doesn’t need to shout.

So here’s to Week One: the quiet bloom, the maybe-baby, and the art of waiting with love (and snacks).
